Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

For the fist time since going to the Arboretum regularly for school field trips my mom and I decided to make a visit. There had been changes since we last visited. There was construction, and the location of the visitor’s center had changed, but that didn’t stop us from going exploring.

Fist we went to see the butterflies. I’ve been to butterfly gardens before, but none that seemed so in-depth about the different types of butterflies. It was fun to see their stages from caterpillar, to cocoon, to butterfly. I enjoyed seeing the different colors and watch them flit from flower to flower.

Next, we began walking on the three-mile loop drive that connects the visitor’s center to the various gardens and trails. As we explored, we noticed sculptures made to look like the plants around them. The sculptures were beautiful, and their placing did a good job of blending with the plants around them.

There was even a bee that was too heavy for the flowers it would cause petals to fall of. One fell on its leg.

Despite being early summer, there were some colorful blooms at the arboretum. Some even looked like they didn’t belong in Minnesota. They came in different sizes, but some were more brightly colored than others. My favorites where when benches would be framed by a tree on one side and bright pink, yellow, or orange shrub, actually I really enjoyed using trees to frame shots at any chance.

However, my favorite part of the arboretum was seeing the wildlife. Other than numerous bird song and, squirrel we also saw butterflies and geese. The geese were numerous, but it’s always fun see goslings. After watching the goose family for a while longer we decided to head home.

Can you see the swallowtail in the photo?

One of the rare times the swallowtail stayed before flying off.

It was fun to watch the gooslings as they kept up with the adults.
