The Woes of being a Kitten (MN Zoo)

High above its siblings the mighty lynx prowls! Pausing to gauge the distance and width of the log the experienced feline tests the log with one paw in a practiced motion. Then, in one swift motion the lynx scales the log only to perch high above everyone all day long. The end.

Although I am sure that’s how the lynx kitten wished its story to go, that unfortunately was not the case. The precocious munchkin made it up the log, but did not know when to let well enough alone. After making it up the log, the kitten still tried to climb.

For the sake of the kitten’s dignity I won’t go into details about what happened next, but know what goes up must come down. After the kitten made its ungraceful decent and hid behind mom, two of its siblings looked down on it. Then, one of them lazily got up to show its sibling how it’s done.

While this was happening the first kitten was soothing its bruised pride behind mama. After a few moments, the kitten got up and began exploring again. The kitten seemed tentative at first, but soon began climbing again. The kitten had given itself a scare, but I had no doubt it will try to climb the log again.
