Trouble in Paradise

Even on the mountain top, summer days can get too warm for the horses. Typically, they spend midmorning to early afternoon napping, and for a while Gringo submitted to peer pressure. He and his mare Bella napped together for a while, until he decided it was time to get up and stretch. And if he’s awake, it’s time for him to be awake too, right?

"Hey there pretty lady!"

“Hey there pretty lady!”

So, he woke up Bella, and started to flirt. She was unimpressed. To her credit, when she went to kick Gringo she was careful not to aim so her hooves would not hit him. Not even when he tried a second time.

"No thanks, Gringo!"

“No thanks, Gringo!”

Bella gives Gringo a second warning.

Bella gives Gringo a second warning.

He finally took the hint, but I was secretly proud of Bella. I usually see her as more of a submissive mare, so it was fun to see her literally kick up her heels. The more I visit the Pryors, the more I learn about the horses.
